Multiplicity in Decision-Making of Africa’s Interacting Markets (MuDAIMa)

The transdisciplinary project "Multiplicity in Decision-Making of Africa’s Interacting Markets" – a.k.a. MuDAIMa – comprises economic, legal and political research perspectives. It is part of the Africa Multiple Cluster of Excellence and its research section Affiliations. The project team will contribute to the understanding of decision-making processes in regional integration affairs by merging empirical findings about legal regulations, formal institutions and informal activities in multi-level governance processes between regional organizations, national governments and affected populations. Empirically, we focus on eastern and southern African regional economic communities.

Political Science Angle

Political scientists in the team are particularly interested in the role of regional courts and, more specifically, of regional judges. We seek to provide systematic and most comprehensive information about who the judges on the regional benches actually are by looking at their professional trajectories. We are also interested in how member states are involved in the selection of regional judges. We study these two aspects and related issues to gain new insights into the role of regional courts in driving regional integration.
